Not if used properly. The blade is designed to remove glue cleanly without digging into or scratching the wood. For softwoods or delicate veneers, use light pressure and keep the blade flat against the surface. 

You can also round the blade’s corners slightly with fine emery paper or a honing stone for extra safety.
