How do I set the sharpening angle?
You can set your desired angle by placing the included gauge block beneath the blade holder or a digital angle gauge above the blade holder and adjusting it to your target angle, commonly 25° for a first sharpening or grind or 30° to add a micro-beve
Does the SharpMate have built-in degree markings?
No, the SharpMate or SharpMate Plus doesn’t include degree markings on the holder itself. Even with printed scales, small variations can lead to inaccuracies over time. For precise results, we recommend using the included gauge block or digital angle
Does the SharpMate allow lateral movement of the blade?
While the SharpMate holds the blade securely in one position, you can still move either the chisel or the stone side-to-side during sharpening.
My short chisels don’t work with the SharpMate. What do I do?
Some chisels with shorter blades may not sit correctly in the SharpMate when set to a 25° angle. This happens because the grind on the back of the chisel contacts the blade holder before the edge reaches the sharpening stone. Use a 30° angle instead
